Transcription: This house in eastern Massachusetts uses both earth sheltering and passive solar techniques to reduce its energy consumption. Both the plan and the three-dimensional form of the building are determined by these technologies, rather than adapting the technology to some more conventional or recognizable house form. But as unfamiliar as this house might have seemed in, say, 1965, it is now very recognizable as a type. In a culture so tuned to change or innovation, It is amazing how quickly the unconventional is transformed into a new convention.
